Landsmót

is the largest outdoor sporting event in Iceland and a central gathering point of Icelandic horse culture. The event brings together competition, breeding, education, and tradition in a landscape that has shaped Icelandic horsemanship for centuries. Next July, Landsmót will be held in Hólar, Skagafjörður—a place long associated with Icelandic horse history and culture, and home to

Hólar University

.

For international visitors, Landsmót offers a rare opportunity to experience the Icelandic horse in its natural and cultural context, where sport is closely connected to history, community, and daily life. The event showcases not only top-level competition, but also the depth of knowledge and professionalism that characterise Icelandic horsemanship.

In recent months, Landsmót has been presented at major equestrian gatherings in Europe, including the Stockholm International Horse Show and Passion Pferd in Hannover. At these events, representatives of Horses of Iceland met with international visitors, many of whom have already expressed plans to travel to Skagafjörður in July 2026 to attend Landsmót.
